22/366 - You don't think about it…until it's gone

January 22, 2012 – I love my little Lumix LX-3. It’s the perfect backup camera to my SLR. It’s small, packs a phenomenal image, and has taken many fabulous photos for me when I just didn’t feel like packing a heavier camera around. When I looked at reviews before buying it two years ago, the only negative I found on it was that people griped about the fact that it didn’t have an integral lens cap and it was easily lost.

I laughed at that and figured that it the only thing people could find to pick apart on it was the lens cap, then it must be a fabulous camera. And it is, it really is.

And then I lost my lens cap after two years of ownership.

Lens caps are cheap though, so I figured no big deal. I finally got around to calling Leo’s Cameras, where I’d purchased it. I was surprised when they told me that it could only be purchased via calling the manufacturer’s parts line. So I called, and was told that their only distributor locally was one shop out in Burnaby. OK, fine. Kirk suggested I buy two, just in case. So I called. I was told that it would take 3-6 weeks to get one in, and the cost was $24.99.

FOR A LENS CAP!

Kirk lost his when a US Coast Guard helicopter tried to take us out last year. His replacement cost about three dollars!!!

I only bought one! And I hope I never lose this one!

Funny, yesterday we went to the motorcycle show and I forgot my camera (Thank goodness for the iPhone). Today I took a camera, and forgot to take any shots. We were having too much fun watching the mini bike races and seeing a nine year old kid kick the tar out of the rest of the riders to remember to pull out the camera.

  2. 22/366 - You donThis has me thinking that I need a better back-up pocket camera. I have a cheapo Panasonic that is allegedly sealed and yet has dust or dirt on the sensor.
