Day 36 - Rough Day for Loki

Day 36 - A Rough Day for Loki

Poor little Loki. His life consists of a pretty regular routine of sleep, love, eat. And when I say routine, I really do mean a set pattern. This is the only cat I’ve ever encountered that can tell time. He absolutely knows when it is 6 am and 6 pm because those are the two times each day that he gets a smidgen of wet cat food. The rest of the time food is always available, but he’s ambivalent about kibble. Unlike Milo who is the exact opposite.

And that 6 am thing, well, in both cases it really starts around 5… because he seems really concerned that we might forget that 6 is coming soon. So if it’s morning, he starts moaning and stuffing his wet nose in your face, and since he’s thinking about food, he’s usually salivating, and eventually he shakes his head and showers you. Always lovely, luckily Kirk is usually the recipient of that fabulous morning wakeup call.

If it’s evening, he starts crying and snuffling around my head. If he doesn’t get any response he’ll eventually wind himself up enough that he’ll go eat some dry food, but because he’s upset that dinner isn’t forthcoming, the food often doesn’t stay down. That’s always unpleasant.

But today poor little Loki had a rather upsetting morning because his routine was completely thrown out of whack. He didn’t get breakfast. Now that is a travesty for this animal. He has a dental appointment today, cleaning and possibly the removal of a tooth. And because of that, all food was put away after dinner last night and no breakfast on the menu. Beyond comprehension.

And Milo, who grazes all day long, couldn’t fathom why he was being punished and was letting the world know he was displeased with that siamese-esque voice of his.

So poor little Loki is at the vet’s, probably under anaesthesia now, having teeth removed. And I can imagine how hungry he will be when he gets home, but his poor little mouth will hurt.

  10. Poor little guy had two teeth removed. Interestingly, less invasive than Milo’s I think, but he’s not dealing with the aftermath as well. I think these two cats feel pain very differently. Milo is quite the soldier, if he actually feels pain at all.

Loki spent the entire night under the covers between my feet and was in a bit of obvious oral pain this morning. And he’s not anywhere near as easy to give things to as Milo is…except for pills, stuff those in a bit of food and he’s as easy as any dog. It’s a good thing this one loves wet food.
