47/365 (February 16, 2010) – We have a monkey off our back.
Finally, Canada has taken a gold medal at home.
Two in fact.
In the meantime, I have loved the American male figure skater (Evan Lysacek – what a skate!), the Swiss downhill skiers, the Korean speed skaters…etc, etc, etc. I particularly loved the American bronze medalist in the women’s freestyle moguls. To me, she epitomized the nature of sport. Inclusive, supportive, and fun. She hugged everyone, even the athletes who knocked her from first and second. How cool is that? And then there was Alexandre Bilodeau, his inspiration is his brother, who is disabled and living with cerebral palsy. I love his completely down to earth attitude.
I wish everyone could let go of the "we are better than you" attitude and embrace the spirit of the games. Sure, many things could be better…many things could be much worse. It’s not so bad, despite what the media would like us to focus on.
I wish good luck to all athletes of all countries. It’s about the person and their skill, not where they are from.
Get over it everyone.
