Photo a Day – 2012

(366/366) The End

(366/366) The End

December 31, 2012 – Nothing fancy, just the end. Sometimes things shouldn’t end with a bang, just a quiet exit stage left.

That’s it, 366 photos for 2012, and a total of 1,096 days taking at least one photo per day. Sometimes many more.

Three years.

That’s a long time.

I hope you enjoyed some of my 365 shots. I’m not doing a photo-a-day for 2013, I think I’ll just do a weekly project instead. And take those random photos that I want to, here and there, now and then. And write when I want to. Sometimes a passion can become a stone around your neck when you commit too much to it, if something was meant to be enjoyable and it becomes more of a chore and less of a passion, […]

(365/366) Renewal

(365/366) Renewal

December 30, 2012 – The year is almost out and Nature is already getting ready for a new start. I seriously love living in Vancouver.

Where else does spring start before the new year does?

We went for a walk in the unexpectedly nice weather (the sun actually made an appearance today, and the sky was blue for a short while) and found lots of plants preparing for the New Year. And this isn’t an anomaly, there are new buds on lots of trees and shrubs around town, and the rhododendron out front of our window has a flower on it! It does help that we live only a few hundred metres from the ocean, and that tends to keep us snow free and mild.

The downside is that if the temperature […]

(364/366) Box Office

(364/366) - Box Office

December 29, 2012 – One of the gifts I bought Kirk for Christmas was two tickets for a production called The Santaland Diaries. It was a monologue, and terrifically funny. Tickets were hard to come by and I had to call and go through several possible days and showtimes before I could find two tickets together, and that was several weeks before the show even took place.

And it was totally worth it!

The show was hysterically funny, and even though it is over for this season, if it is on again next Christmas, I highly, highly recommend it. It is an off-colour, politically incorrect, darkly funny accounting of a Macy’s Christmas elf.

A must see!

December 28, 2012 – Do you have anything that you seem to have to purchase with some regularity?

We seem to need to replace wine glasses on a biennial basis.

We break them in the sink, we clunk things into them, the cats knock them off things, we knock them off things.

Good thing there are always good sales on them at this time of year.

(362/366) Sweet Stack

(362/366) Sweet Stack

December 27, 2012 – These are, hands down, my favourite cookies in the world. They are Molasses Sugar Cookies, and I only ever make them at Christmas. The recipe came to Vancouver with me when I left home, my Mom made them every year at Christmas and they have the most heavenly, warm, heady, Christmas spiciness. Cloves, cinnamon, ginger, molasses…everything that screams winter cookie.
