Day 355 – Star Light, Star Bright..

Finally managed to get a tree and put it up tonight. Things have been so busy for both of us this year that I just can’t believe how far behind we are on everything. But no matter, last night we opened a bottle of wine, put the tree up, and decorated it to Christmas music in the background. Hard to…

Day 353 – Stragglers

No matter how early I get the cards out, there are always a few missing addresses that mean a few greetings get out late. Busy catching up, and now that I have just one day of work out in the field before I’m off for vacation, I can finally get my exams marked and get the rest of my Seattle…

Day 352 – Buskers, Birds, and Books

Day 2 in Seattle and we just spent the day wandering and enjoying the city. We meandered through Pike Place Market and watched people wake up. This person was busking outside of a bookstore at the market. We thought we’d stop by the original Starbucks and pick up a coffee, but apparently half the city had the same idea. The…

Day 351 – Puget Sound

We used the International Motorcycle Show in Seattle, Washington as an excuse to get away for the weekend and what a fabulous, entertaining weekend it was! We took the train, which means getting up at 4:30am to get ready, deal with animals, and get across town for the 6:40am departure. We fell onto the train with all the other sleepy…

Day 350 – Christmas Presents and Peace of Mind

They are done, and gone. The small and few gifts (mostly charitable donations) have been wrapped, enveloped, sealed, packaged, and posted. They are well within the timeline to arrive in time for Christmas, and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief that things are done, even with a little time to spare. Christmas can come now and I can…

Day 348 – Childhood Memories

Explanation? I don’t really have one. Well, maybe I do. I was out In Thunder Bay visiting my best friend just as the Olympics were ending and we were shopping one day. We went through some funky little store and they had miniature Gumby and Pokey dolls. I didn’t buy them, tho’ I later regretted it. For a couple of…

Day 347 – The Forgotten Ones

I was out at the Cultus Lake Lab again today, spawning sockeye. The drive to the lab is mostly on the freeway, but the last few miles take me towards Chilliwack and past fields through Yarrow. Fields that have been put to rest for the winter. Cut corn stalks, bright red blueberry bush branches, swans feeding on fallen grains. Halloween…

Day 346 – Stuffed and Ready to go!

DONE! Cards are made, filled out, and stuffed into envelopes, awaiting stamps tomorrow. I’m running behind on everything this year…this “job” thing is almost getting in the way I know more and more people are sending e-cards, but I find them so much less personal than a real paper card, with real handwritten messages. Some things are better left the…

Day 345 – It’s all a blur…

Where did it go? The year, I mean! I just can’t quite believe that the end is almost here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been a fabulous year! I finally landed the position I’ve been wanting for the past five years, the motorcycle season saw me put close to 13,000km on the bike (and a couple of thousand on the…
