October 3, 2012 – Time is so precious,  we never have enough.

I had a plan today, I’m good at managing my time, but it can all go sideways with a single email that sends everything less important to the back-burner. Oh well, that’s life at work.

But personal time, now that’s another story.

October 1, 2012 – Crazy busy day today. Meeting, another meeting, then an escape to my Alma Mater for a really great physiology talk where I had the opportunity to say hello to a fish physiologist who I haven’t seen for many years, and who just made the move to UBC as their newest addition to the Zoology Department. And as an added bonus, one of my former labmates, the last graduate student to go through our lab, had also made the trip out to hear the same talk. So it became a social visit too. September 25, 2012 – I bet it was better than his. Even our worst days are probably better than the average homeless person’s is.

I woke up at 2 am and was violently sick for the next 5 hours. Food poisoning I imagine, though Kirk wasn’t sick and we ate the same food. I was scheduled for a full day course and somehow I managed to go. I just wanted to curl up in bed and die, but I’d been trying to get into this class for a year and if I didn’t attend the payment would still be billed …

September 24, 2012 – Today is Kirk’s Birthday, so it was a nice dinner, dockside at Cardero’s. And yes, we had more than bread and wine, although the location would have made that totally acceptable! And no, we weren’t looking at a boat, but only because we got a table before our reservation and before the boat broker called. So we turned down the boat viewing and opted for a nice dinner instead. There will be more boats, but Kirk only has one birthday per year, and that’s more important!
