December 11, 2012 – Another rainy day out spawning sockeye salmon at Cultus Lake and a happy red barn in a very soggy field in the small community of Yarrow. Why there is a boat in what is little more than a puddle is beyond me. At this time of year it’s pretty much a guarantee that a field day will involve rain. I am glad that it’s a little warmer than it was at this time last year, though not a lot, and part way through the morning I still couldn’t really feel my fingers. But it’s still a great day when you can spend it helping to rebuild a threatened stock of fish.
December 10, 2012 – No, I’m not going crazy. That’s the name of this herbal tisane I bought from a new tea shop in The Village in West Vancouver. What’s in it? A whole bunch of fabulous flavours: Hibiscus blossoms, apple pieces, carrot flakes, blackberry leaves, eucalyptus leaves, lemongrass, beetroot pieces, and tangerine slices. They say tea has healing qualities. I feel like I need some healing. Today was a roller coaster ride. On the upside, my extension came through and gave me a bit of breathing room and took me a few steps closer to where I want to be permanently. On the downside, We came home and there was a box at the door. Christmas gifts from my brother’s family. Most people would be happy to see a box of gifts. But it put me into an emotional tailspin. I am having trouble facing Christmas and anything to …
December 9, 2012 – I may not have gone to any of the Christmas events last night, but the calories came home to me anyway! Kirk went to his staff party and a basket of goodies came home with him. It sucks to be a chocolate lover at this time of year… resistance is futile, regardless of a lack of Christmas cheer in me I’ll still partake.
December 8, 2012 – I always love flame at any time of year, but there is something so psychologically warming about a candle at this time of year. Kirk is out for his staff Christmas party tonight, I just wasn’t in the spirit and couldn’t face condolences so I stayed home with a warm blanket, two cats and a parrot, a glass of wine, and apparently a book of matches, a candle and a camera.
December 7, 2012 – When I opened a trunk at Mom’s place before we left, I discovered the teddy bear collection. She used to put together the most amazing Christmas Teddy Bear Tree. She started collecting bears years ago. She called it the Bear Rescue since most came from thrift shops. Presumably she had to find a reason to justify keeping them or get rid of them. This was her solution. And a pretty wonderful solution it was. We packed all the bears up, grabbed the artificial tree in her basement, and took it all to Vancouver. Although I have absolutely zero Christmas Spirit this year, and haven’t done a single thing for the holidays – no gifts, no cards, no baking, and until now no decorating (how could I have, I basically missed the month of November altogether), the tree went up. I usually get stressed – but I …
