April 4, 2012 – Today was quite possibly the best field day EVER!!! Vancouver Island, and particularly this region of it, is a very active area for logging. There was a helicopter pilot using Nitinat hatchery as a base to fly fallers into remote areas. On one of his refueling landings, Rob (the hatchery manager) asked him if he would…

“Wall-E Jr, once upon a time there were humans, and they used currency to acquire things. One form of currency that they used to use in Canada, until 2012, was called the “penny”. It wasn’t worth much, it actually cost more to make than it was worth. The penny was first introduced into Canadian currency in 1858, but they were…

And then you see a video that challenges that assumption. But of course, when you watch this, you will certainly realize that these fabulously amazing places in Alberta…

205/365 (July 24, 2011) – At last! A day worthy of being on the boat! The sun was shining, the temperature was up, and the boat was calling. We spent a fabulous day up Indian Arm hanging out at Clementine Creek with surprisingly few others at the dock.

182/365 (July 1, 2010) – Do you know what’s just plain wrong? Well, I’ll tell you! What’s wrong is enjoying the First of July while wearing jeans and a fleece jacket because it’s so cold that I can see my breath. It was colder today than it was during the Olympics in February. Oh well, we had a fun Canada…

45/365 (February 14, 2010) – At the corner of Georgia and Howe streets in downtown Vancouver, this massive building wrap contains the rebuilding and rebranding of the former Hotel Georgia. Today, Canadiana is rampant in Vancouver, all Canadians are draped in their love of the flag because a young man finally won gold on home soil. Alexandre Bilodeau won gold…

I’ve been giggling over this for a few days. When we went to Greece last spring we met a great couple from the UK and shared a lot of laughs, and some less than sober moments. Both vessels carried mascots, ours had a small bear and a Canadian Mountie Moose. I think they had a monkey. We took ours along…
Read more »I am on a work trip up to the Southern Interior, Lumby to be exact. Where the heck is that? Hang an East at Vernon and drive until you reach a four way stop with a flashing red light. You’ve arrived. Not much here. I suppose it’s quaint, probably lovely in the summer. But when you are looking around at…

We went to a Canucks pre-season game last night (Thanks Web!) and I marveled yet again at a Canadian (I think) invention. I’m not really a major hockey fan, but Kirk keeps working on me and slowly but surely I am starting to get the rules and see the penalties as they happen instead of incessantly asking “What did he…

I really love Vancouver! And I really love the Celebration of Light. It is threatened with cancellation every year, but somehow manages to hang on and continue, sometimes at the eleventh hour. I can’t imagine how much these fireworks shows cost…it must be phenomenal, and I feel sorry for the fish and various critters in the water and the park……
