What We Do Exceptionally Well

I love Vancouver, no secret there. There are so many great things about this city. It has a consistent climate, no particularly harsh winters, no particularly crazy hot humid summers. We have wonderful cultural diversity, great theatres, and the most amazing environment. We have the mountains out our backdoor, and the ocean in our front yard. We have quick and…

Should we or Shouldn’t we….?

Hmmm, we were scheduled to go boating this weekend. Norvan’s first Labour Day weekend cruise to Gibsons. I woke up at some point and heard Milo digging somewhere, thought I should check it out, luckily he was being busy in the right place. I thought it odd that he was up and using his litter box in the middle of…

Yes, that about sums it up…..

It’s really hot…. too hot….whine, whine, whine…. A cute article in the Vancouver Sun today summed it up nicely… Hell hath no fury like 34 degrees in Vancouver By Shelley Fralic, Vancouver Sun columnist July 29, 2009 I have little in common with Marilyn Monroe (like, no kidding) except this. She once said, in that memorable film The Seven Year…

This is Obscene!

I didn’t think it could get worse, but you know what? It DID! It is currently (8:30 pm) 31C in the bedroom…. that is seriously obscene! It was 32C on the deck a half hour ago. There are no fans left in Vancouver, anywhere. Not that we need one, we have one…it just moves the hot humid air around a…

Too Hot to Handle!!!

OMG. Seriously. This is too much. I moved to the Coast 20 odd years ago because it was a temperate climate. OK, I moved here for other reasons…that was just a bonus… but it really doesn’t get hot in Vancouver….it’s not supposed to. This is a temperate rainforest afterall. Sure, we might see a day or two of 30 degrees…

Well THAT was Cool!

We are two nights into the Celebration of Light that Vancouver hosts each year and has hosted for 19 years now. Canada was last Wednesday and Saturday night was South Africa’s turn. We had pulled our boat into the tidal grid at BYC for the weekend to get the bottom painted, props replaced etc, and a friend invited us out…

Canada Goes Bang!

I really love Vancouver! And I really love the Celebration of Light. It is threatened with cancellation every year, but somehow manages to hang on and continue, sometimes at the eleventh hour. I can’t imagine how much these fireworks shows cost…it must be phenomenal, and I feel sorry for the fish and various critters in the water and the park……

Mother Nature 1: Vancouver 0

Wow, what a weekend. I don’t know what the record is, but I’ve not seen it snow for that long at a stretch in the time I’ve lived in Vancouver. I’ve seen a greater accumulation here…but not that fast. It really is pretty though.  Looks like a White Christmas no matter where you are in Canada this year! We were…

What was I saying?!?

Here we go again. I just looked at the long range weather outlook. I love the snow! I love the cold weather! I’m a winter girl at heart and I am always amused by the inability of Vancouver to function when so much as a single flake of snow descends from above. However, I am not amused by the weather…
